NEW ORLEANS, LA- September 23, 2011– La Dolce Nola, Old Metairie’s Snackery and Gelateria, has unveiled its 100th unique flavor since opening last December. The new flavor “Clio’s Treat” is a special gelato created specifically for dogs (although tasty and edible for humans). The gelateria will be offering a free cup of “Clio’s Treat” to dogs during the weekends of September 24-25 & October 1-2, 2011.
Created by La Dolce Nola co-owner Jennifer Samuels, “Clio’s Treat” is a special flavor in memory of the owners’ dog Clio, who recently passed away after twelve years of companionship. “On the morning he died, Clio’s final treat was a cup of gelato fed to him lovingly by our two-and-a-half year-old daughter. It was a way to tell him goodbye and to say thank you for being such a loving friend” said Samuels. In tribute to Clio, as La Dolce Nola’s 100th flavor, Samuels created a gelato recipe specifically for dogs- it is made with fat-free yogurt, sweetened with honey and banana, with peanut butter added to give it a creamier texture.
Samuels continued, “As with all things at La Dolce Nola, ‘Clio’s Treat’ is vegetarian and made by hand with lots of love, but this is special because it was made with great gratitude for our dog Clio who showed my family and me true selfless love beyond what most humans are capable of. “
Clio’s Treat will be available among La Dolce Nola’s 24 rotating flavors of homemade gelato & sorbetto. The gelateria is located at 200 Metairie Rd Ste 100, in Old Metairie’s Friedrichs Square. Store hours are daily 11:00am until 10:00pm.
